Putting their best foot forward: Sneakers for Soldiers
WEST CHESTER—Deborah Hausladen is a doer.
When she got a phone call from her son, who was serving in the Army in Afghanistan, requesting new sneakers, she sent him some. But she also asked if anyone else in his platoon that needed new sneakers and he said they did so she sent shoes to those soldiers, too.“I wanted to help in some way and all of a sudden, Sneakers for Soldiers popped into my mind,” she said. “Within a week Sneakers for Soldiers was born.” The charity sends athletic shoes to service members stationed overseas.With her husband, John Hausladen, she soon began their charity, first as a mission within their church, Covenant Presbyterian in Frazer, so that donors could get a tax deduction.“We shipped our first shipment to an infantry platoon stationed in Afghanistan on Memorial Day weekend 2018,” said Deborah Hausladen…
